Hazelwood Olympic Triathlon 2024

Sunday 25th August 2024

  • 08:30 to 10:15: Registration in Hazelwood
  • 09:00 to 10:30: Transition open
  • 10:45: Competitor briefing
  • 11:00: Race starts

Cut-off times:

  • Swim: 12:00
  • Bike: 14:00
  • Run: 16:00

Getting to the event

Hazelwood Forest is situated 5km outside of Sligo Town on the R286. The area is called Calry and the road is signposted Dromahair.

You can find the location by searching Google maps for the Eircode F91TD9F or “Hazelwood Forest”.

From the North

Once you pass the small roundabout at AbbVie, continue to set of traffic lights and turn left.  Continue for 2km until right turn onto Hazelwood Avenue.  Registration and car parking will be signposted from Hazelwood Avenue.

From other areas

From N4. follow signposting for N16 Enniskillen.  Turn right onto N16/Ash Lane, signposted for ATU Sligo, continue past ATU to traffic lights.  Continue straight through crossroads for 2km until right turn junction onto Hazelwood Avenue.  Registration and car parking will be signposted from Hazelwood Avenue.

Race day parking

There is a newly developed carpark located close to the forest entrance immediately off Hazelwood Avenue.

Note: Individuals who present at registration without valid TI Membership or One Day membership will be denied entry to this event and will forfeit the right to a refund

Overseas athletes

Athletes travelling from overseas should either purchase a Triathlon Ireland One Day License or have an ITU Federation Full Race License plus another form of photo ID (Passport or Driver’s License).

Relay teams

At least one member of each relay team should be a Triathlon Ireland Member or have a one-day Membership.

At Registration you will receive:

  • Timing Chip
  • Race stickers
  • Race number.  If you don’t want to wear a race belt, you must wear your number on the FRONT for the duration of the race.
  • Goody Bag
  • Wrist band for food.

The Race

Road safety

Roads will remain open to traffic for the event, Competitors should obey the rules of the road and exercise due caution when presented with a hazard. Instructions from Gardai and marshals should be followed. Competitors deemed to be cycling dangerously or without consideration to others will be disqualified or penalised by race marshals. Civil Defence ambulance will be in attendance on the day.

Race will involve a rolling start with five second intervals. Fast swimmers will be asked to go to the front of the queue.


Distance: 1500m (2 laps)


Distance: 40km (1 loop).



Distance: 10km (2x5km laps)

Post race

Chip timing will be in use from Core Timing. Please remove your chip after the race and place it in the bucket provided.

Relay team members should hand over the timing chip at the bike racking point.


Post-race food will be available for all triathletes with a wristband.


Cash prizes will be awarded across a number of age categories for the top three male and female finishers.
