Women’s Try a Tri Initiative
Sligo Triathlon Club Women’s Try a Tri initiative is an annual event which is built on an ethos of reintroducing sport back into the lives of women.
The programme consists of six weeks of training. Women are coached in Run, Bike and Swim lessons. These sessions run twice a week, brick session midweek (cycle & run) & swim session on Sunday.
The event culminates in a mini-triathlon
Providing support at every level
We have a variety of support structures to help women rediscover sport including peer to peer, mentor support and psychological support.
Critical to the running of the event is the system of mentoring, where participants from the previous year provide support to the new participants.
Award-winning initiative
2020 marked the 10th year of Club Member and Coach Kate Hawney running the event, which unfortunately could not take place due to Covid19. Kate’s effort in running the event received a National Award from Triathlon Ireland for Volunteer of the Year in 2019 and in 2021 Kate also received an acknowledgement from Sports Ireland under the heading of ‘Inspirational Leader’ for her work within the programme.
